About Eng. Badr Basalama

From the Heart of Yemen to the Frontiers of Cosmic Thought
Born on September 1, 1958, in the Hadramout Governorate of Yemen, Eng. Badr Basalama’s journey is one of diverse landscapes—both geographical and intellectual. Growing up across the historic cities of Hadhramout, Aden, and Sana'a, he developed a profound curiosity about the nature of existence. It was during his youth in Aden that he first immersed himself in the world of ideas, sparking a lifelong passion for philosophy and the profound questions of life.

The Engineer’s Perspective Badr’s academic journey took him to Germany, where he specialized in Petroleum Engineering from 1979 to 1985. This rigorous scientific training provided him with a unique lens through which to view the world—one grounded in thermodynamics, physics, and precise calculation.

With over 40 years of diverse experience spanning government, development, international organizations, and the private sector, Badr has spent a lifetime solving complex problems. Yet, alongside his professional pursuits, he never ceased his exploration of the “ultimate” problem: the origin of the universe itself. His extensive reading led him through the works of Greek masters, Enlightenment thinkers, and the profound insights of Islamic philosophers like Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd.

Bridging Science and Faith, Badr believes that science and spirituality are not opposing forces but complementary lenses through which we can view reality. In his debut non-fiction book, The Big Five Truths of the Universe, he synthesizes his engineering precision with deep theological reflection. He advocates for an “integrated perspective,” arguing that the fine-tuning and mathematical elegance of the cosmos point not to random chance, but to an intentional Creator.

A Journey of Discovery Through his writing, Badr invites readers to look beyond the surface of scientific data to see the “signature” of design embedded in the fabric of the cosmos. His work makes complex scientific concepts—such as entropy, cosmic constants, and the origin of life—accessible to everyone, encouraging readers to engage in their own critical thinking about why we are here.

When not writing, Badr continues his research into the mysteries of the universe, driven by the conviction that “somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known”.
